If you have an interest in Heritage railways, then why not have a day out at Peak Rail. Peak Rail is a heritage railway, which runs the five miles between Rowsley South Station and Matlock.
Peak Rail runs a normal operating timetable from February to November with lots of special events going on throughout the year including an Easter Treasure Hunt, aspecial vintage bus days, including a £5 all day vintage beer and bus running day, which ferries passengers to and from the fantastic real ale pubs found throughout the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District.
If you’re interested in cars then there’s even a couple of classic car rallies. In 2019 there were rallies for Lotus and the iconic Mazda MX5.
Trains take a break in mid November, but During December they return for the Santa and Steam Specials, a great hit with the kids when they get to meet Santa, who has a present for every child on the train (booking required). Santa Specials run every weekend in December up to Christmas plus the 23rd and the 24th, Christmas Eve.
The train has a restaurant car and they run special events for Mothers, Fathers Day and Christmas Lunch. There’s also special afternoon and cream tea specials.
Our self catering cottages in Matlock, Derbyshire are perfect for a trip to see the steam train at Peak Rail. All of our cottages are within two miles of Rowsley South Station where all the trains depart and finish at. But you could be clever. If you buy an all day ticket you can get off at any one of the three stops along the line and get back on at any point during the day. This means you could get off the train at Maltock and have a wonder round the park, pubs and shops, and then get back on and take the train back to Darley Dale, which is just a short walk back to our all of our cottages.
