Situated in the Derbyshire Dales in the Peak District, Matlock Town is roughly within seventy miles of seven major UK cities including Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool and as the planet gets itself back together after a tumultuous few years, Matlock has begun to thrive as new houses spring up and bring new people into the area. Also increasingly popular with tourists, there has been a steady increase in the number of trendy new pubs, bars and restaurants.
If you’re staying in one of our luxury holiday homes situated just outside Matlock, then it’s a short bus ride into the center of town. Alternatively, if you’re visiting at the weekend in peak season you could even choose to catch a steam train from Darley Dale. Operated by Peak Rail you could steam into town along the restored Derwent Valley Line.
Once in town you might choose to start on the outer edges. The Tipsy Toad is a very short walk down Bakewell Road. The pub offers a range of beers and cocktails.
On your return from the Tipsy Toad, you might like to pop into the Ostello’s Lounge Bar on the left or you might consider heading to Dale Road where you will find a plethora of pubs and bars. From the Tipsy Toad you would need to walk back down Bakewell Road and turn right at Crown Square and go over the bridge (closed at the time of writing). Otherwise you might walk through the park and take the footbridge across the river and then a short walk up Olde English Road will bring you to Dale Road. If you do decide to travel in by car there is a car park in Olde English Road.
Walking down Dale Road from the bridge at the top end it won’t take long to find a pub or bar. On the right hand side of the street you will find Twenty Ten serving a range of good ales and lagers. Almost next door is Bod. Bod is owned by the Titanic Brewery, so expect to find a range of beers from their repertoire. Further down on the right are two bars next door to each other, Millers and Rubico.
On the left hand side of the street near the entrance to Olde English Street you will find The Remarkable Hare, serving craft beers and ales. The other side of Olde English Street you will find the trendy bar Monk, serving a range of beers and wines plus cocktails.
Most pubs and bars have happy hours where some drinks are half price. At the time of writing happy hours can be found at the Tipsy Toad, Twenty Ten and The Remarkable Hare.
